    Club Richelieu

In keeping with its values and motto, the Richelieu International's mission is to promote the Francophonie at the international, national and local levels, as well as to serve the youth through social, educational, cultural, non-partisan and economic policies. This mission contributes to the growth of individuals and communities. The Club is a privileged collaborator of the International Organisation of la Francophonie.

    History

In 1944, the founding of Société Richelieu in Ottawa, Canada's capital, fills a long-felt need of Canada's French-speaking population for social service. Adapted to the mentality, culture and ideals of French Canadians, this new foundation also meets the aspirations of Franco-Americans and those of all francophone countries and groups that have French as idiom. These cultural affinities are not unrelated to the rapid growth of Club Richelieu, first in Canada, then in the United States since 1955, in France and in Africa since 1968.

The Club Richelieu branch in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue was created on September 26, 1953 and some of its founding members are still active today.

    Why the name Richelieu?

The name Club Richelieu has its origins in "La Maison Richelieu", the first social service house established in America for the orphans of soldiers and settlers. It was at the request of Cardinal Richelieu that his niece, the Duchesse d'Aiguillon, founded this house, pledging to maintain it on her will. In 1965, Maison Richelieu became a hospital, which became the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec.

    Involvement in the Annabellevoise community

The Richelieu Club of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue has been very involved in the community since it was founded in 1953, with helping children and youth as its primary mission. The Club conducts a number of fundraising events throughout the year to give back to members of the community in need. For example, members organize roadblocks, dinner parties and various popular events.
