How can I protect my home from heavy rain?
Due to climatic disturbances, episodes of intense rainfall are becoming more frequent. These exceptional downpours send huge quantities of water into the sewer system in a very short space of time, overloading the network and potentially causing backups.
To help protect your home, we've prepared a few tips and best practices that you can adopt right away.
October 17 2024 information session presentation
On August 9, the sanitary sewer system in the North sector was put to the test by extreme weather conditions, causing considerable damage to homes and municipal infrastructure.
In this context, and in the face of growing climate challenges, the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is determined to adopt proactive measures to strengthen the resilience of its municipal infrastructures and minimize the impact on its citizens. To this end, the city is undertaking an inspection and analysis process.
As part of this process, the City held two public information sessions on October 9 and 17, focusing on residential submersible pump connections in the North sector.
The inspections carried out as part of the process are necessary to verify the compliance of submersible pump connections and ensure that they are not connected to sanitary sewers, in accordance with municipal by-laws.
During the information sessions, residents were given all the details about the inspections, including how to book an appointment with the company in charge of the inspections, how the inspection is carried out, and the steps to be taken following the inspections.
Floods of August 9, 2024 - Public Information Session
Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue residents affected by record rainfall on August 9 were invited to a public information session. The purpose of the meeting was to provide an update on the situation and discuss the various avenues for future action. The meeting was followed by a question and answer period.
Since the very first hours of this crisis, City teams have been fully mobilized to support and help those affected. On the ground, the public works team has worked tirelessly to ensure the integrity of public infrastructures, clean up streets and increase the frequency of bulky goods collections to facilitate the removal of damaged goods.
In the face of these unprecedented floods, the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue would like to express its deepest solidarity with all those affected. The safety and well-being of every citizen is a priority for the city.

*In order to counter this demand, we will have containers on hand at the paddock.
It is important to respect the following points:
- Be sure to contact your insurance company before disposing of damaged items;
- Make sure that these items do not block sidewalks when deposited outside your home;
Due to exceptionally high demand and the large number of damaged items, the collection company will be able to make only one collection per residence.
We ask residents to be courteous to each other by taking out only those items that have been damaged by the flood. This will allow the collection company to efficiently pick up all damaged items throughout the city.
End of bulky damaged goods collection:
The last day for the collection of damaged bulky items will be November 29, 2024. This special collection was set up to help residents following the damage caused by the heavy rains of August 9, 2024.
People affected by flooding may experience unusual physical, emotional and behavioral reactions. Pay attention to your own reactions and those of your loved ones. Don't hesitate to ask for help from Info-Social, by dialing 811, option 2.
As of August 26, 2024, the Town has been informed by the Ministère de la Sécurité publique du Québec that it is now listed in the order concerning heavy rainfall on August 9.
